Itel Laboratories was formed in 1993 to meet the material evaluation needs of the Property & Casualty Insurance Industry following Hurricane Andrew in South Florida. Itel stands for Independent Testing & Evaluation Laboratories. |
Because Itel is an industry standard they are integrated into the BrightFloors process.
This process includes the Shaw Flooring dealer securing a flooring sample (including wood) at the time of the initial inspection. This sample is then submitted to Itel using the standard process for a turnaround evaluation and report within four business days.

Who ITEL Is
ITEL is an independent testing laboratory servicing the property insurance industry. Their mission is to help insurance companies settle flooring and siding claims quickly, accurately, and fairly. ITEL has been in business since 1993 and has performed well over 1 million tests for property insurance carriers all throughout the United States.
What ITEL Does
ITEL tests flooring and siding samples sent from homeowner loss sites to determine a fair settlement price and/or Like Kind and Quality recommended replacement materials. Their technology-driven testing process and advanced database of readily available flooring and siding products helps to quickly (next day service available) and accurately match incoming samples with products and prices available in today’s market. ITEL currently tests Carpet, Pad, Vinyl, Wood, and Laminate Flooring, as well as Vinyl and Aluminum Siding.
